2011 Wenatchee Omnium

General Information

  1. Held under USAC Permit # 2011-2001. USA Cycling regulations and scale of penalties applies.
  2. WSBA race numbers will not be used; numbers will be issued at registration. Both race numbers and frame number must be used for all Races.  Your number goes on your RIGHT and LEFT sides. The bottom edge should be on the side seam of your jersey and the top of the number should be pointing toward the middle of your back. Numbers must be clearly visible.
  3. Results will be posted at the check in areas for each event.
  4. Canadians who hold a Canadian UCI license will not need to purchase a one day license. Mexico or other UCI license holder must show proof of insurance or purchase a one day licenses at $10 /day.
  5. One day licenses will be available on site for $10 per day for USA C5 men and C4 women only. All others must present a current 2010 USAC license or in the event of a recent purchase or renewal a printed copy of the Authorization to Ride off the USAC web site. Annual licenses will not be available for sale at this event.
  6. Caution: All courses are open to traffic, centerline rule is in effect. Be cautious of oncoming, following, and crossing traffic, as well as parked vehicles. Keep your head up and stay aware!
  7. Junior gearing is required for all juniors in all races, regardless of category. USAC Rule 1M6. Junior rollout will take place immediately after each race; rollout will be available prior to each event start. Please report no later than 5 minutes prior to race start time.

 

Omnium Rules; This is a 3 event omnium, not a stage race.

1.    Omnium Points: Omnium points will be awarded to top finishers after each event. Overall Omnium prizes (cash & merchandise) will be awarded to those with highest point totals after all three events are completed. You do not need to START or finish all events to gain points.

2.    Tie Breaker: In case of a tie on total points, ties will be broken in favor of the rider who has: (a) The most first place finishes or, if still tied, the most second place finishes, etc., or if still tied; (b) The highest placing in the Road Race.

3.    Results: Omnium Results will be posted at the check-in area of each event.

4.    Protests: Protests concerning the Omnium points must be submitted to the Chief Judge and will be accepted up to one hour before the start of the next event. At the end of the road race event on Sunday, results will be final following a 15 minute waiting period after they are posted if there are no protests following that day’s race.

5.    Field Limits: Field limits will be in affect and are projected as follows. Men’s Cat. 1/2 - 75, Cat. 3 – 50, Cat 4 – 50, Cat. 5 – 50, Mstr. A – 37, B – 37, C – 37, D - 37. Women’s Cat1/2 - 50, Cat. 3 – 50, Cat. 4 – 50.

6.    Field Minimums: Masters filed must have a minimum of 5 riders to be held and scored. All other fields must have a minimum of 10 riders in category.

Time Trial – Saturday Morning – ALCOA Parking Lot

(South on Wenatchee Avenue, stay straight to Malaga Alcoa Highway for 8 miles)

  1. Parking: Parking will be available in the auxiliary Alcoa parking lot, go past the main lot and the entrance to the metal works.  Overnight camping is not allowed.  Alcoa is in operation and would appreciate your consideration. There will be no parking allowed within 200 yards before or after the finish line.  Please walk from the Alcoa parking lot if you want to watch the finish.
  2. Warming Up: There is NO warming up or cooling down on the TT course. This means no rider shall pass the Start line of the TT course and ride in the same direction as the other riders competing in the TT event. Riders doing so will be disqualified from the TT event only! They can however still race in the next event of the omnium.
  3. Start Procedures: Riders will start in 30 sec. intervals. A holder for starting riders will be provided for each category.
  4. Open Road: The road is open to traffic. When racing stay to the right side of the road near the white line. Please use caution while on the course and be courteous to any motorists.
  5. Centerline Rule: Riders must stay on the right side of the road and not cross the centerline at ANY TIME. 
  6. Drafting: There is no drafting of any riders or vehicles allowed at any time. We will have officials on course watching for drafting. This course is very open so you may be seen for a long distance. Penalties for drafting will be enforced and will be assessed by the Chief Referee using the published scale of penalties in the USAC rules under Chapter 4, Stage Racing.
  7. Omnium Points: Points for the TT go 10 deep for each group listed on the schedule. 15,12,10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1.
  8. Junior Roll-Out: Each junior must report to the whip official (not the starter) near the start of the TT within 5 minutes of finishing their individual TT. Failure to report to an official for roll-out or failing roll-out will result in disqualification in the TT event only.
  9. Course Description: The course is an out and back. A road marshal will be at the Junior  turn around which is 2.5 miles from the start. Everyone else will turn around at the cone / turn around sign which is approximately 4.5 from the start of the TT. An official will be stationed at the turn around for safety and to insure rules compliance.
  10. Start Times: Time Trial start times will be posted next to event check-in tent located in the ALCOA parking lot and at the Red Lion Hotel. Approximate start times are listed in table below.

Criterium – Saturday Evening – Downtown Wenatchee Avenue

(Centennial Park on Wenatchee Ave. between Orondo St. and Yakima St.)

  1. Course Description: This is a 4-corner 1 mile course, running clockwise with a downhill into corner 2. High speeds may be attained through corner 2 and into the back stretch. Watch for uneven payment between corners 2 and 3. Please ride safely and carefully through corner 3. After corner 3 the course turns to a short up hill to corner 4 then back to the start/finish line on a flat straight away. Historically it will be twilight to complete darkness from the start and during the Men’s Cat 1/2 Crit event. The course will be lighted appropriately
  2. Primes: Primes in the race will be cash and/or merchandise. The exact number of each will be determined at race time.
  3. Lapped Riders: Lapped riders may be pulled from the race. This will be announced before each race by the Chief Official. Riders pulled before their race is halfway completed will be considered as NOT finishing and will not be placed in this event. Riders pulled after their race is halfway completed will be placed and will be considered to have finished. Those riders will receive a prorated time to ascertain their order of finish relative to others. Riders who withdraw on their own will not be placed and will be scored as DNF. Riders that withdraw from the race on their own should notify an official so can be tracked. This is for safety as much as it is for scoring. Riders who do not leave the race after being pulled will be disqualified.
  4. Pit: The Pit will be located at the start finish line across from the announcer’s truck. Do not assume the wheel pit is neutral. Teams will be required to provide at least one set of wheels for the pit. Riders can never ride backwards on the course to reach the pit. Riders may cut the course to reach the pit.
  5. Free Laps: Free lap rule will apply for mishaps up until there are 8 laps to go in each race.
  6. Junior Roll-Out: Each junior must report to the pit official immediately following their race. Failure to report to an official within 5 minutes of the completion of their event for roll-out or failing roll-out will result in disqualification for the Crit event.

Road Race – Sunday – ALCOA Parking Lot

(South on Wenatchee Avenue, stay straight to Malaga Alcoa Highway for 8 miles)

  1. Staging: Staging for the road race start will be on the driveway entering ALCOA.
  2. Parking: Parking for the Road Race is available in the Alcoa parking lot. Overnight camping is not allowed. Alcoa is in operation and would appreciate your consideration. There will be no parking allowed within 200 yards before or after the finish line.  Please walk from the Alcoa parking lot if you want to watch the finish.
  3. Open Road: The road is open to traffic. Please stay to the right side of center line at all times whether your racing or not. Please use caution while on the course. Before and after your race there is NO standing around on the road. This road is open to traffic and there are many races going on, not just yours.
  4. Centerline Rule: Riders must stay on the right side of the road and not cross the centerline at any time, including in the final 200 meters of the race. However, riders are permitted to cross the centerline ONLY in the controlled corners provided they are in between the lead and follow car. Once out of the corner you need to get back into the right hand lane ASAP. Failure to do so may result in assessment of penalties by the Chief Referee.
  5. Rolling Enclosure at Corners Only: The races are run as a “Rolling Enclosure” at the corners only. You have a lead car and a follow car and as long as you are in between these two cars the marshals will control the corners. If you are outside the rolling enclosure you need to keep your head up through the corners to make sure the marshals see you coming. Marshals are not required to stop traffic for riders that are not within the enclosure but will make every effort to assist dropped riders through the corner.  Caution: Once out of the rolling enclosure, you must exercise due care and caution while on the roadways and obey all traffic laws.  Be aware that you are responsible for signaling your intention to turn.
  6. Final 200 Meters: Riders DO NOT have both lanes to sprint. You will not need it. Center line rule is in effect.
  7. Wheel Support: Wheels will be wheels in wheels out, EXCEPT for Cat 1/2 Men and Women. (Wheel support for Cat 1/2 ’s may be neutral) That will be based on the number of racers in those fields. You will have a car following your race with spare wheels. Please put spare wheels next to the indicated car before the race. Each team should provide a set of wheels for the race and should be clearly marked with your name and contact number.
  8. Feed Zone: Feed zone is located on Joe Miller Road on the false flat next to the white church before turn 3.  Neutral water will be provided also.  Feeding is permitted from the right side of the road only. Drivers should leave ahead of the race to arrive at feed zone before the rider.
  9. Omnium Points: Road Race Omnium points go 15 deep for the each group listed on the schedule. 20,17,15,13,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
  10. Course Description: The course is a mix of rural country roads, and highway. The “Big Loop” contains a short rolling section on the Malaga-Alcoa Highway followed by a sustained five mile climb through orchard county roads with a single 100 meter section of 15% grade, followed by an additional five miles of rolling climbs through pine forest with a nine mile descent back to the Alcoa highway. The descent is sustained and high speeds may be attained, ride with care. “Big Loop +” is the Time Trial course followed by the loop described above.
  11. Time Limit: Riders finishing outside of 20% time of the lead rider may not be placed.
  12. Junior Roll-Out: Each junior must report to the area near the finish line indicated during pre-race announcements, and to the official who was with their race, within 5 minutes of their personal finish time in the road race. Failure to report to official for roll-out or failing roll-out will result in disqualification from the road race only.
