There has been a lot of activity with the
club over the last month. The sponsorship drive was wrapped up
at the beginning of March and we are very happy to welcome many
new sponsors and also the old standbys to the new club kits.
This year’s sponsors are SMART Racing Team, Wenatchee Anesthesia
Associates, Johnson and Johnson Orthopedics, Central Washington
Hospital, Wenatchee Valley Medical Center, Tyler Gundersen
Dentistry, Firefly, Lifeline Ambulance, Sangster Motors,
Biosports Physical Therapy, Still Properties, Taste Buds, JB
Steamers, Greg Brown Insurance, Arlberg Sports, Wenatchee
Pediatric Dentistry, Cashmere Valley Bank, Anjou Bakery,
Garlini’sNapoletana,
Full Circle Cycle, Krieg Cycling, The Second Wind and CrosSport
Performance. If you know someone who works at one of these
sponsors please give them a thank you for their help. If you
have an opportunity, please patronize these fine businesses.
CrosSport has offered one free month of the basic membership for
WVV members. If you would like to check out this gym, go visit
them at 501 S. Wenatchee Avenue.
The club has two new board members. Jenni
Hakensen and Margot Peterson joined the board in February and
are already working hard for the club. Thanks again to outgoing
board members Adria Gundersen and Ginger Shamley for their
dedication to WVV.
Preparations for the Omnium are
progressing. We have about 15 volunteers signed up at this
point. We need more, so please contact Jenni Hakensen at
jhakensen@yahoo.com to
sign up. The first thirty members to sign up will receive a
great seat bag from Krieg Cycling. These great bags are even in
Velo colors and were donated by club member John Scarafiotti of
Krieg Cycling. All volunteers also receive the race t-shirt. The
dates for the race are May 14 and 15. Please consider helping at
this great event.
I recently met with a
subcommittee to get some ideas on this year’s club ride
schedule. We are working on putting together a weekly ride for
our beginning to intermediate riders. These rides are designed
to be fairly mellow to allow new riders to gain skills and
fitness on non intimidating rides. This means that the hammer
heads will be asked to skip these rides. We are planning on
Saturday rides that will leave at the same time and place each
week. In order to make this happen we need ride leaders. There
should be two leaders for these rides; one to ride point and one
to ride as sweeper. We are hoping to get enough volunteer
leaders so that you will lead a ride every four to five weeks.
You don’t have to be a super fit racer type to lead rides, just
a fairly experienced rider who knows the local roads. Please
contact Margot Peterson at
margo.peterson@gmail.com to sign up as a ride leader. The
more leaders we have the better program we can put on.
Two upcoming events hosted by
Vicious Cycle include the Beezley Burn Mountain Bike festival in
Ephrata on April 9 and 10 and The Chainsmoker Mountain Bike Race
at Sqilchuck State Park on May 7th. Visit
www.beezleyburn.com for
more details. The Ride of Silence to honor cyclists killed or
injured in vehicle related accidents will be in Wenatchee on May
18.
Please join us this Thursday
(April 7) for the monthly club meeting at Biosports Physical
Therapy (18 N. Worthen) at 7:00 p.m. We have lots to discuss
including the Omnium, the new kits, our ride program, and we
would like to hear your ideas and expectations for the club. The
wool jerseys have arrived and this would be a great time to pick
them up. The price of the woolies is $90.00 and they turned out
great. We are also working hard on this year’s membership drive.
Dues are $20.00 for a single and $30.00 for a family membership.
Please come to the meeting to sign up as a ride leader,
volunteer for the Omnium, pick up your woolie and give us your
ideas and help. We need you to make this club even better.
